How to calculate GPA in Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) is a common question from students. Credit hours and quality points are used in the computation.

Formula:

CGPA = Σ (Grade Points × Credit Hours) Σ Total Credit Hours

Quick Example:

Semester 1: GPA 2.3 × 16 credits = 36.8

Semester 2: GPA 3.5 × 15 credits = 52.5

QAU Probation Policy: 3 Chances Rule

Every BS student at QAU must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.00. Falling below this triggers probation and QAU allows a maximum of 3 probationary semesters to recover.

Probation

If your CGPA falls between 1.00 and 1.99, you are placed on probation. You are allowed a maximum of three probations during your entire BS program.

Dropped/Struck Off

f your CGPA is less than 1.00 at the end of any semester, you will be immediately dropped from the university rolls.

 

QAU BS Lateral Entry Program

QAU accepts credit transfers from HEC-recognized universities for its BS Lateral Entry Program. Key rules:

Only courses from HEC-recognized institutions are eligible for transfer; Pharm-D transfers must also be approved by the relevant professional council

Transferred credits appear as exemptions — they do not contribute grade points to your QAU CGPA

Students from international boards must submit IBCC equivalence certificates

Lateral entry students follow the same grade improvement limit (4 courses maximum)

Students who fail transferred-equivalent courses may register in the Summer Semester to complete requirements

QAU CGPA to Percentage Conversion

While Quaid-i-Azam University primarily evaluates academic performance through a 4.0 GPA scale, many international scholarships and local recruitment agencies (such as the PPSC or FPSC) request a percentage equivalent.
