While the grade points remain the same, MPhil and PhD students must maintain a higher CGPA to proceed to the thesis stage. Usually, a 2.50 CGPA is required for coursework completion, but you should verify departmental requirements for research eligibility.

QAU vs HEC Grading: Why It Matters for Your CGPA

Most Pakistani universities follow HEC’s standard scale where A- = 3.67. At Quaid-i-Azam University, A- = 3.80  that’s 0.13 higher per course. Over a full BS program, this difference adds up significantly in your final CGPA.

How to Calculate Your CGPA at QAU

How to calculate GPA in Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) is a common question from students. Credit hours and quality points are used in the computation.

Formula:

CGPA = Σ (Grade Points × Credit Hours) Σ Total Credit Hours

Quick Example:

Semester 1: GPA 2.3 × 16 credits = 36.8

Semester 2: GPA 3.5 × 15 credits = 52.5

CGPA = (36.8 + 52.5) ÷ 31 = 2.88

QAU Probation Policy: 3 Chances Rule

Every BS student at QAU must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.00. Falling below this triggers probation and QAU allows a maximum of 3 probationary semesters to recover.

Monitoring your CGPA every semester with this cgpa calculator qau above is the simplest way to stay ahead of probation risk.

Good Standing

A CGPA of 2.00 or higher.

Probation

If your CGPA falls between 1.00 and 1.99, you are placed on probation. You are allowed a maximum of three probations during your entire BS program.

Dropped/Struck Off

f your CGPA is less than 1.00 at the end of any semester, you will be immediately dropped from the university rolls.

QAU BS Lateral Entry Program

QAU accepts credit transfers from HEC-recognized universities for its BS Lateral Entry Program. Key rules:

Only courses from HEC-recognized institutions are eligible for transfer; Pharm-D transfers must also be approved by the relevant professional council

Transferred credits appear as exemptions — they do not contribute grade points to your QAU CGPA

Students from international boards must submit IBCC equivalence certificates

Lateral entry students follow the same grade improvement limit (4 courses maximum)

Students who fail transferred-equivalent courses may register in the Summer Semester to complete requirements

QAU CGPA to Percentage Conversion

While Quaid-i-Azam University primarily evaluates academic performance through a 4.0 GPA scale, many international scholarships and local recruitment agencies (such as the PPSC or FPSC) request a percentage equivalent.

Standard HEC Conversion Formula

Following the HEC Pakistan guidelines for 4.0-scale institutions, QAU students can estimate their percentage using a simple multiplier.

The Calculation Formula:

Percentage ≈ CGPA × 25

HEC Standard Conversion Table

For more formal applications, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) provides a specific range-based conversion. This is often used to ensure fairness across different qau grading system in Pakistan.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is there a specific QAU MPhil GPA calculator?

Yes, this tool works as a QAU MPhil GPA calculator. While the grading points are the same, MPhil students must maintain a higher CGPA (typically 2.50 or 3.00 depending on the department) compared to BS students.

To calculate your QAU GPA, multiply the Grade Points (e.g., 3.80 for 76-79 marks) by the Credit Hours of that course. Sum these up to get Total Quality Points and divide by the Total Credit Hours.

If a student’s CGPA falls below 1.00, they are “Struck Off,” meaning they are removed from the university rolls. Using a QAU calculator regularly helps you monitor your academic standing to avoid this.

You can check your official results and transcript details via the QAU department notice boards or the official university student portal.
